PAWS of Carteret Phase II July 11, 2017 Progress Report

Phase II Progress PAWS Pet Adoption Center
July 11, 2017

1. Construction Progress
a. The roof is now on and framing complete.
b. Windows & doors are installed
c. Electrical, plumbing, HVAC in progress
d. Flooring & cabinetry final choices being made
2. Interesting Facts:
A. There is a separate hvac system for our intake/quarantine area. This is to insure healthy air for all of the other resident animals. Between 10 and 20 room air exchanges per hour with fresh air is the standard recommendation.
3. Ongoing sources of revenue
a. Pet Hydrotherapy: patients are currently going out of town, often more than once per week to receive professional pet hydrotherapy sessions. Local veterinarians will be able to refer their patients to us reducing travel cost and anxiety for owners and pets. The ROI (return on investment) is very good for this service.
b. Public Pet Memorial Garden: A peaceful place to leave Fido & Fluffy while allowing the comfort of knowing you can always visit.
c. Pet crematory services
d. PAWS Thrift Store: Our retail location is our primary source of income. Once again our operations are drastically challenged by the lack of men and women volunteers to operate the store. 3 hour shifts once per week are needed desperately for our cashier positions and receiving. It’s very rewarding to see it all in action but can easily turn overwhelming without enough help. Our store is open 6 days per week from 10-4pm. Please, please contact me right away to help! We must be able to continue to operate our store in order to have a successful Adoption Center.
4. Other extremely important administrative areas we’re getting ready to go to work on are:
A. Establishment of Policies and Protocols

B. Management Structure

C. Staff Training

D. Animal Identification and Record Keeping

E. Decontamination Protocol: Cleaning, Sanitation, Disinfection, Sterilization

Most importantly I want to remind everyone that this Pro Humane No-Kill Adoption Center will be in Carteret County for many years. Our Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren will be essential to operate and maintain the many aspects of this very special place. I encourage our young people to go and educate yourself whether it be as a veterinarian, technician, groomer, administrative management and support team, kennel staff, maintenance, volunteer coordinators, lobbyists, and so much more. Come back to Carteret County and help us to help the less fortunate animals.

There are many other ways to help financially right now!
Room sponsorships are currently available: Surgical Unit, Hydrotherapy Unit, Feline Residence, Canine Residence and more. What a wonderful way to honor or remember a pet, loved one, or business. Once sponsored the room dedication is yours forever.
