PAWS and IDEXX Labs are sponsoring a FREE Canine heart worm testing clinic on August 13th, 11AM – 3PM.  50 Canine heart worm tests are available and will be presented at no cost.  Please bring your leashed dog between 11 am & 3 PM on Saturday, August 13th.  Multiple pets will be allowed.  Test results will be provided on site the same day.  In the event that more than 50 dogs come to be tested PAWS will test as many as possible.  The event will be at the PAWS Pet Adoption Center, 5042 Mattie St. Morehead City.  Take Bridges St. to Gloria Dawn Rd. and turn left onto Business Dr.  Turn right onto Ryan, then left onto Mattie St.  PAWS will be on your right.

During 2011 PAWS has provided Carteret County residents with free FeLV/FIV/HW testing for 90 felines, 4500 pounds of free dog & cat food, and in October will offer the annual Micro Chip Clinic during the OktoberPets Pet Expo!

Batten down the hatches and be ready to evacuate you and your pets if necessary!  The 2011 hurricane season began June 1st and ends officially November 30th.  With a bit of  luck from Mother Nature perhaps we can put one past her this year.  Just in case be sure to have an advance plan of action to move you and your pets to safety.  Don’t forget that Carteret County has a “Companion” (pet-friendly) hurricane shelter located at the Newport Middle School, 500 E. Chatham St.  Be sure to take a look at our “Hurricane Shelter” page for useful information about how to utilize this shelter if needed.  It’s helpful but not required to pre- register you and your pets.  As always, volunteers staff all of the PAWS projects so please step up and help if possible.  Your help is needed and appreciated so very much by the community and the critters.

The PAWS Bark Park opened in May 2011 and has quickly made some great new canine pals! Family Event

OktoberPets Pet Expo 2010 will happen October 31st at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. This is such a fun family event. Plenty of contests for everyone to enter. One of our favorites is “Best Kisser” of course! This year’s event falls on Halloween so we’re really encouraging folks and their canines to dress it up a bit! Yes, there will be a costume contest too!  Other than the one dollar admission probably the best deal will be the Microchip Clinic where canines can be chipped for only $35 which includes registration! Instead of a “fund” raising event we prefer to call it a “fun” raising event! Over 200 dogs plus a couple of small furries came last year so will there be even more this year? The Classic Car Cruise In is a non-show event open to all vehicles of interest and also sports a 50/50 drawing!  Lots of food & fun, give-aways, and also a live radio remote broadcast with “The Bear”.   A huge thank you to Realty World First Coast Realty for being our “Top Dog” event sponsor!
